About Us

POWERED BY THE DETROIT PARTY Motor City Frequencies is a production of The Detroit Party—celebrating the culture annually at The Old Miami since 2021.

Motor City Frequencies is a multimedia archival project, production house, and event platform dedicated to documenting the evolution of Detroit music—from the soul of Motown to the future of Techno.

We believe that the “Detroit Sound” is not just a genre; it is a lineage. It is a story of machines, soul, and industrial resilience that changed the world. Our goal is to ensure that story is preserved, respected, and kept alive by the people who live it.

OUR MISSION

The history of Detroit electronic music is often treated like a museum exhibit—something that happened in the past. We reject that. This culture is a living, breathing continuum.

Our work is built on three pillars:

1. THE ARCHIVE (The Podcast & Film)

We are committed to recording the oral histories of the architects who built this sound.

The Motor City Frequencies Podcast: At the heart of our archival work is our definitive six-part audio documentary series. This limited series traces the invisible thread connecting the assembly lines of the Motor City to the basslines of the underground.

  • The Narrative Arc: Over six episodes, we map the sonic evolution from the polished soul of Motown, through the funk of the P-Funk era, and into the raw, machine-driven birth of Techno.

2. THE HUB (Community Resource)

The scene needs a central nervous system. MotorCityFrequencies.com serves as a resource for locals and visitors to navigate the true underground, hosting the Detroit Events Calendar, artist bios, and historical context. We connect the “Heads” to the events that matter.
